Plastic Blast Media - Introduction  

A member of the BIP group, BIP Plastic Media was established in 1994, to provide an environmentally friendly route for the rejected and recycled mouldings produced from BIP’s core business – moulding powders.  Mouldings are crushed, ground and graded in carefully controlled conditions to produce a blast media which is ideal for cleaning or stripping away paint, dirt and grease, without damaging the substrate.

Cleaning with BIP plastic media is a fast, environmentally acceptable and cost effective alternative to traditional chemical and hand stripping.  Unlike chemical strippers, plastic media is biodegradable, non-toxic and non-polluting and the process is now accepted as the optimum method of surface preparation for a wide variety of materials and components.

Among the many benefits of BIP media are its low breakdown rate, low dust and accuracy of granulometry which ensures exact particle size control and distribution.

Additionally, each batch is tested for surface hardness to ensure that its cutting performance meets tolerance standards.  It can be used in wet and dry airblast equipment at pressures of 15 – 40 psi (1 – 3 bar)

Each type is available in a range of standard sizes with special grades on request.  In 2001, BIP was the first Plastic Blast Media Manufacturer outside of N.America to have its products formally approved to the demanding US Military specification P-85891A and Rolls-Royce CSS227 and we remain committed to these standards of excellence.

BIP is in a unique position – The company does not rely solely on a finite supply of reject materials for its media; within the same site the Group has the world’s largest moulding materials manufacturing plant, and BIP Plastic Media is able to draw on this as necessary, guaranteeing a continuous feedstock supply chain.

UREA Media
Coarse Grade
3.5 MOH (54-62 Barcol)

More aggressive than type V, this media is suitable for general surface preparation work such as mould cleaning, removing carbon deposits from engines, paint and coatings removals, without distortion or damage to relevant substrates.

Type III
Melamine Media
Medium Grade
4 MOH (64-72 Barcol)

Our most aggressive grade, and as such, perfect in electronic applications, for printed circuit board cleaning, and in industrial applications for deflashing, deburring and dejunking.

Type V
Acrylic Media
Fine Grade
3.2-3.5 MOH (46-51 Barcol)

Ideal for dry stripping delicate or thin sheet composite and exotic materials without damage or distortion.  Used extensively in the aerospace industry for paint removal on fuselages and cleaning structural components prior to inspection.

Poly A
Polyamide Media

20-30 Barcol

This media is available in any colour or other sizes.  Ideal for deflashing thermoset plastic parts and also deburring machined diecast components.

Poly C
Polycarbonate Media
1mm

A polycarbonate media available in any colour and other sizes.  A higher density media than nylon, this media is ideal for deflashing and deburring.  Also recommended for cryogenic shot blast deflashing of rubber.
